Archery Competition - Nov. 10th & 11th

2013 dates and details have not been finalized.  See 2012 info below for an idea of what may come.

Archery, as an organized competition, dates back to the first known competition held at Finsbury, England in 1583. Tournaments were sponsored, with prizes for winners, among other ways of encouraging archery. There was therefore much motivation and incentive to become an expert with the longbow and the competitions allowed for various English kings to be able to recruit thousands of archers per year!!

The Carolina Renaissance Festival continues this tradition by inviting experienced archers to compete on both Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th in  Archery competition.  The competition will be held inside the Renaissance Festival at The Haven which is located to the left of the Joust Arena from 12pm - 3pm on both days. Each day is a separate competition.

  • Bows are restricted to any bow that does not have wheels or sights, is a long bow, or recurve.
  • Please plan to bring 8 arrows.
  • Targets are stationary and will be placed approx 20 - 25 feet away.
  • The competition is open to both men and women, ages 13 and up.
  • The competition is open to all experience levels. The competitors will not be separated by experience or class. This may change in future years as interest continues to grow.
  • When entering the Festival Village, all archers must present their bows and arrow container or quiver to the Safety Services personnel located at the Front Gate Entrance. Arrows must be contained in an enclosed container or quiver and not removed until the competition's start time.

*Restrictions and regulations may change as interest in the competition increases over time.

All archers must complete a release of liability waiver prior to the start of the competition. Pre-registration has ended.  You may register at the competition.  Please plan to arrive a half hour prior to competition start time.
